About Us
Weltel was conceived by clinicians and scientists working in HIV/AIDS care in Kenya, who noticed the impact mobile communications had on the daily lives of people in the region.
We have seen how the vast majority of the population in Africa has gone from no telephone access, to accessing the cutting-edge technology of mobile telecommunication to manage their personal and business lives. Kenya alone has over 20 million mobile phone users or over 80% of adults over the age of 15, a rate common common throughout Africa.
Currently, we are in the process of publishing the results of our clinical trial using low-cost SMS (text-messaging) to stay in touch with patients taking antiretroviral (ARV) medications to treat HIV/AIDS.
Weltel is also developing and testing clinical based IT applications for scale-up and use with national and global health programs.
